Welcome from the Senior Minister

On behalf of our elders, deacons, and congregation, I welcome you to Second Presbyterian Church. Our great desire is that you are spiritually blessed by joining us for worship and that you feel the warmth of God's love through our fellowship.

Let me tell you a bit about our church. We are Christians whose chief glory is in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, who are deeply committed to the Reformed faith as expressed in the Westminster Standards, and who seek to be a community of God's grace throughout our fellowship, service, and witness to the gospel. We are committed to what is sometimes called an ordinary means of grace ministry. This means that we are not seeking to build our church through programs and services, but by the power that God's Holy Spirit provides through His Word, prayer, and biblical worship, including the sacraments. We seek to worship God in a reverent way in accordance with the principles taught in the Bible. Just as the pulpit is in the center of our sanctuary, we desire God's Word to be at the center of all that we do, especially our worship services. We read God's Word, preach God's Word, sing God's Word, pray God's Word, and dramatize God's Word through baptism and the Lord's Supper.

As an older church (we were established in 1892), we have the rich blessing of multiple generations joined together in one congregation. Our membership includes all ages, and we do our best to interact across the generations. Some of our members grew up in the church and have many relatives in the pews. Many other members recently came to Greenville and are making friends and spiritual family connections in our congregation. We seek God's blessing for our ministry of the gospel to our children and families, to the Greenville community around us, and to the world through our missions partnerships. In all of these things, we desire to know God better and to enjoy eternal life
through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

We are so glad that you have joined us for worship and we hope that we will see you again. Please feel free to approach any of the ministers, church officers, or members for any questions and needs that you may have. I would personally enjoy getting to meet you and would be happy to help you in any way. May the Lord bless you as you look to Him through faith in Christ. I pray that your experience here at Second Presbyterian Church is one that has blessed you spiritually and strengthened your faith in the Lord.

In Christ's Love,
Dr. Richard D. Phillips, Senior Minister
